01 September 2025 - Fluid Thinking Creates Solid Results Ethos
Trent Refractories are really proud of the team on this particular project. Lots of challenges to overcome but by working closely with our customer and applying our ‘fluid thinking’ ethos, ‘solid results’ have been delivered. Tuyeres are one of the most critical components in a blast furnace.
The tuyere is one of the most critical components in a blast furnace, serving as the entry point for the hot blast of air that drives combustion and sustains the ironmaking process. Constructed from water-cooled copper to withstand extreme temperatures, tuyeres deliver preheated air and often auxiliary fuels such as pulverised coal or natural gas, directly into the furnace hearth. At the tuyere level, the injected air reacts with coke to create the intense heat and carbon monoxide necessary for reducing iron ore into molten iron. The number, placement, and condition of tuyeres directly influence furnace efficiency, fuel consumption, and safety, making them essential to both performance and operational reliability in modern ironmaking.
